Are you interested in forming a tax-exempt nonprofit group? Many people who want to support causes mistakenly think that calling a group a nonprofit is enough. But, the IRS says not so fast! To be considered tax-exempt, there are hoops that must be jumped through, up front. First, you must decide if the group will be a trust, corporation or association. Then, you must apply with the IRS for exempt status and be approved. Approval is a multistep process that starts with gathering documents about your organization. You’ll also need to find out what your state requires, get an employer identification number from the IRS and submit your application. Need help jumping the hoops? Contact us.
